Defence Minister Rajnath Singh to address Parliament today, likely on Tawang skirmish

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will make a statement, likely to be on the India-China face-off in Tawang sector of Arunachal Pradesh, in Lok Sabha at 12 pm and in Rajya Sabha at 2 pm on Tuesday, sources said.

Meanwhile, the clash between Indian and Chinese troops in Tawang sector is likely to rock Parliament today with several Congress MPs demanding a statement from Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the situation at the border. The Congress MPs have given adjournment notices in both houses of Parliament to discuss the border situation with China, PTI reported. While Manish Tewari has given a notice in the lower house, Congress leaders Randeep Surjewala and Syed Nasir Hussain have given similar adjournment notices in the upper house.

India is the “fastest-growing” economy under Prime Minister Narendra Modi but there are “people” in the Opposition who keep raising questions over the country’s progress just out of “jealousy”, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said in Lok Sabha on Monday. The minister’s remark came during the Question Hour after Congress member from Telangana A Revanth Reddy raised the issue of depreciation of the rupee against the dollar and sought to know from the government if it has any action plan to control the situation.
