PM Modi Discusses Ukraine Visit Insights with Putin

PM Modi spoke with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday, just days after meeting Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Kyiv. During their conversation, PM Modi discussed measures to further strengthen the Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership between India and Russia. He also shared perspectives on the Russia-Ukraine conflict and insights from his recent visit to Ukraine. Modi reiterated India’s commitment to supporting an early, enduring, and peaceful resolution of the conflict.

The prime minister’s call comes after his meeting with Zelenskyy amidst the ongoing war in Ukraine. Modi emphasized that India is not “neutral” but firmly stands on the side of peace. “We have always taken the side of peace,” he said, referencing India’s roots in the teachings of Buddha.

Modi further assured that India is dedicated to respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states, stressing its importance.

Last month, during his visit to Moscow, Modi met with Putin and urged a return to dialogue and diplomacy, affirming that “no solution can be found on the battlefield.”

Russia-Ukraine Conflict Escalates

The Russia-Ukraine conflict, now in its second year, shows no signs of abating. On Monday, Russia launched drone and missile strikes across Ukraine, resulting in two deaths and widespread damage, particularly in Kyiv and Kryvyi Rih, an industrial city in southern Ukraine. Despite air defenses intercepting most of the attacks, falling debris triggered forest fires and blackouts in the region.
