Prime Minister Narendra Modi criticized the negative politics of some parties, accusing them of using Parliament’s time to hide their failures. At the beginning of Parliament’s Monsoon Session on Monday, Modi lashed out at the Opposition for disrupting previous sessions. He urged lawmakers from all political parties to work together for the country over the next five years.

Modi alleged that the Opposition parties tried to prevent him from speaking in Parliament during the last session, adding that such tactics have no place in democracy.

“You must have seen that in the first session of Parliament, there was an attempt to stifle the voice of the government elected by 140 crore people. For 2.5 hours, there was an effort to suppress the Prime Minister’s voice. They tried to prevent me from speaking in Parliament during the last session,” PM Narendra Modi said in his customary address at the start of the Parliament session.

“The people of the country have sent us here for the nation, not for a political party. This Parliament is meant for the country, not for party politics,” he added.
