Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the inaugural ‘Art, Architecture, and Design Biennale 2023’ organized by the culture ministry. This initiative, aimed at promoting art and architecture, will take place at the Red Fort on Friday, a day before the exhibition is made accessible to the public.

The week-long biennale from December 9-15 will offer a deep dive into the rich tapestry of India’s art, architecture and design ranging from its traditional doors and archways to its ancient stepwells and modern-day structures.

Complete with exhibitions, lectures, art installations, workshops and an art bazaar, the cultural extravaganza will also rope in some of the best known international artists, architects and designers. What’s more, the pavilions set up as part of the biennale will remain on display for the public until March 31, 2024.

Red Fort to Host India’s Inaugural ‘Art, Architecture, and Design Biennale 2023’

The bienalle, the ministry said, is inspired by Modi’s directive to establish five cultural spaces in India, including one at the historic Red Fort, and seeks to create a global cultural event comparable to those in Venice, Sao Paulo, Berlin and Dubai.

Divided into seven themes to mark every day of the exhibition, the themes include ‘Doors of India’, ‘Gardens of India’, ‘Baolis of India’, ‘Temples of India’, ‘Architectural Wonders of Independent India’, ‘Indigenous Design’ and ‘Women in Architecture and Design’. It will also host physical and digital exhibitions, interactive installations, sessions and panel discussions, a students’ biennale at the Lalit Kala Akademi and workshops for the public.
