The Congress criticised the government over the nomination of Justice S Abdul Nazeer as governor of Andhra Pradesh. Justice S Abdul Nazeer calling as the action a “grave danger” to the independence of the judiciary.
In response to Congress’s criticism of former Supreme Court judge Abdul Nazeer’s selection as governor of Andhra Pradesh. Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju claimed the “whole ecosystem” is once again in “full swing” over the matter.
Without identifying anyone, the minister stated on Sunday. The Congress should see that they can no longer treat India as their “personal kingdom.”
The government nominated six new governors on Sunday, including Justice S Abdul Nazeer (retd). Who was part of the 2019 Ayodhya judgement, and four BJP officials, in addition to reorganising governorships in seven states.
The appointment of Nazeer as the Governor of Andhra Pradesh within weeks of his retirement drew sharp criticism from the Opposition including the Congress. Which said such appointments were a “great diminution and a great threat to the independence of judiciary”.
In an apparent swipe at the Congress, Rijiju took affirm that India will guided by the provisions of the Constitution.
“The Whole Eco-system is once again in full swing on the appointment of a Governor. They should better understand that they can no more treat India as their personal fiefdom. India will guided by the people of India as per the provisions of the Constitution of India,” the minister said.
Nazeer was a part of numerous landmark decisions. Including the one that declared quick ‘triple talaq’ and declared the right to privacy to be a basic right. He announced his retirement on January 4 of this year.
