    BJP leader and party’s candidate from Puri Lok Sabha seat Sambit Patra courted a controversy after a slip of tongue remark by him on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Lord Jagannath went viral.

    Naveen Patnaik Condemns Patra’s Jagannath Remark

    In the viral clip, Patra is heard on a private Odia channel stating that Lord Jagannath is a devotee of PM Modi. Odisha Chief Minister and Biju Janata Dal chief Naveen Patnaik responded to the video, saying, “Mahaprabhu Shree Jagannatha is the Lord of the Universe. Referring to Mahaprabhu as a devotee of a human being insults the Lord and has hurt the sentiments and faith of millions of Jagannatha devotees and Odias worldwide.”

    Patra Clarifies Jagannath Remark, Cites Slip of Tongue

    “This has deeply hurt Odia pride and will be rememberd and condemnd by the people of Odisha for a very long time,” he said.

    Later, Sambit Patra clarified his remarks, stressing that it was a slip of the tongue.

    Responding to Naveen Patnaik’s post on X, Sambit Patra wrote, “Namaskar, Naveen Ji! Today, after the massive success of Shri Narendra Modiji’s Road Show in Puri, I gave numerous statements to various media channels. In all of them, I mentioned that Modi ji is an ardent ‘Bhakt’ of Shri Jagannath Mahaprabhu. By mistake, in one of the statements, I said the opposite. I know you understand this.”

    Kejriwal Condemns Patra’s Remark as ‘Insult to God’

    Arvind Kejriwal, the chief of the Aam Aadmi Party, also condemned Patra’s remark, describing it as an “insult to God.”

    “I strongly denounce this statement from the BJP. They seem to believe they are above God. This level of arrogance is unacceptable. Referring to God as a devotee of Modi ji is disrespectful,” he stated.

    Congress Demands Apology from Modi Over Patra’s Jagannath Remark

    The Congress also criticized the BJP for Patra’s comment. “BJP leader Sambit Patra’s statement that Mahaprabhu Lord Shri Jagannath is a devotee of Narendra Modi is a serious insult to Mahaprabhu. This remark has offended the faith of millions of devotees. Sambit Patra, who is engrossd in devotion to Modi, should not have made such a mistake. Narendra Modi himself should apologize for this offensive statement,” a post on the party’s X handle read.

    Lord Jagannath, a manifestation of Lord Vishnu, is widely revere in Odisha, and his temple in Puri is a significant pilgrimage destination.
