    The Centre on Friday set up a panel to closely monitor the current situation along the India-Bangladesh border, according to Union Home Minister Amit Shah. This committee has been constituted in response to the ongoing situation in Bangladesh, where concerns have arisen regarding the safety and security of Indian nationals, Hindus, and other minority communities. The panel will maintain open communication channels with Bangladesh authorities to ensure the protection of these groups.

    Shah shared this development on X, stating, “In the wake of the ongoing situation in Bangladesh, the Modi government has constituted a committee to monitor the current situation on the Indo-Bangladesh Border (IBB).” He emphasized that this measure is aimed at safeguarding the lives and well-being of those living near the border.

    In light of the increased tension, the Border Security Force (BSF) has heightened its vigilance along the 4,096 km-long India-Bangladesh international border. Security agencies have warned that over 1,200 prisoners, including terrorists, have escaped from jails in Bangladesh and could attempt to infiltrate into India. As a precaution, the BSF has advised locals residing near the border to avoid unnecessary movement, particularly during the night. Shops in these areas have also been asked to close by 9 PM.

    Jaishankar Assures Parliament, Modi Calls for Peace

    External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar addressed the situation in parliament, assuring that the government is closely monitoring developments in Bangladesh, particularly concerning the protection of minorities. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while congratulating Yunus on his new role as chief advisor of Bangladesh’s interim government, expressed hope for a swift return to normalcy and reiterated India’s commitment to working with Bangladesh for peace, security, and development.
