Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief ministerial candidate Bhagwant Mann won a handsome victory with 82,023 votes from Dhuri constituency of Punjab(Jeevan Jyot Kaur). AAP has won 92 of 117 Punjab Assembly seats. It is also for the first time AAP has won in state polls apart from Delhi. The ruling Congress could only manage to win 18 seats.
Earlier in 2017, the party won mere 20 seats, while Congress had formed the government in the state, winning 77 seats.
It is a big win for Aam Aadmi Party in Punjab and Bhagwant Mann will now take oath as the Chief Minister of the state.
The seat of Amritsar East was in focus as the Congress fielded its state party chief Navjot Singh Sidhu against Shiromani Akali Dal’s Bikram Singh Majithia. Meanwhile, the constituency has witness the victory of AAP’s candidate Jeevan Jyot Kaur.
Jeevan Jyot Kaur reserved the victory with 39,520 votes followed by Navjot Singh Sidhu 32,807 votes while Majhitia could win only 25112 votes. Kaur is the district president for AAP in Amritsar (Urban).
If you go into the records, Jeevan Jyot Kaur had once called both the leaders Sidhu and Majhitia ‘political elephants’ who aralways engaged in fights. Kaur has been vocal against the two.
