US Vice President and Democratic nominee Kamala Harris expressed her gratitude to President Joe Biden for his “lifetime of service” to the nation during the opening of the Democratic National Convention in Chicago. The Indian-origin leader highlighted the country’s deep appreciation for the 81-year-old president’s leadership.

In a surprise speech on the first day of the convention, Harris remarked, “I want to kick us off by celebrating our incredible president, Joe Biden. Joe, thank you for your historic leadership and lifetime of service to our nation. We are forever grateful to you.”
Presidential nominees typically deliver their speeches on the final day of the convention, but Kamala Harris broke tradition, receiving loud cheers from the crowd. The 59-year-old leader is expected to formally accept her nomination for the November US elections during the event.

In her remarks, Harris emphasized unity and determination, stating, “People from every corner of our country and every walk of life are here, and this November, we will come together and declare with one voice that we are moving forward. Let us always remember — when we fight, we win.”
Harris and Walz to Be Nominated as Democratic Candidates at Convention’s Close
At the conclusion of the four-day convention on August 22, Kamala Harris and her running mate. Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, will be officially nominated as the Democratic candidates for the US presidency and vice presidency. President Biden is expected to deliver a ‘swan song’ address, endorsing Harris against former President Donald Trump.
