On Friday morning, Shinde, BJP’s Devendra Fadnavis, and NCP’s Ajit Pawar returned to Mumbai after meeting Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP President JP Nadda in Delhi. Their discussions centered on finalizing a power-sharing agreement after the BJP-led coalition’s landslide victory in the recent Maharashtra assembly elections.

Shinde Exit Delays Talks, Fadnavis Set to Lead Maharashtra

After calling the Delhi meeting “good and positive,” Shinde’s sudden departure halted talks, increasing uncertainty over the new government’s leadership and cabinet roles.

Sources told India Today that Shinde is expected to return to Mumbai on Saturday. The BJP, with 132 seats, has yet to finalize its CM candidate, but many expect Devendra Fadnavis to lead. Shiv Sena (57 seats) and Ajit Pawar’s NCP (41 seats) are focusing on securing key cabinet roles, as their chances for the CM post seem slim.

Shiv Sena leaders want Shinde to stay as CM, citing the success of the Ladki Bahin scheme, but the outgoing CM said he will defer to Modi and Amit Shah’s decisions.
