Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the residence of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in Delhi today to pay his last respects. He was accompanied by Union Ministers Amit Shah and JP Nadda during the solemn occasion.Dr. Manmohan Singh, who served as India’s Prime Minister from 2004 to 2014, passed away on Thursday at the age of 92. Known for his integrity, intellect, and transformative contributions to India’s economic and political landscape, Dr. Singh is survived by his wife, Gurcharan Singh, and their three daughters.
PM Modi Pays Tribute to Dr. Manmohan Singh
Expressing his condolences, PM Modi took to social media platform X to honor the legacy of the late leader. PM Modi described Dr. Singh as one of India’s “most distinguished leaders.” He praised Singh’s remarkable journey from humble beginnings to becoming a globally respected economist.
“Dr. Singh rose from modest origins to gain immense respect as an economist. He held several pivotal government roles, including Finance Minister, where he made a lasting impact on India’s economic policy. His speeches in parliament were always insightful and thought-provoking. As Prime Minister, he worked tirelessly to improve the lives of Indian citizens through significant reforms,” PM Modi wrote.

The nation mourns the loss of Dr. Manmohan Singh. He is remembered for his calm demeanor, dedication, and key contributions to India’s economic and political progress.
“Dr. Manmohan Singh ji and I often interacted during his time as Prime Minister,” PM Modi recalled. “I was the Chief Minister of Gujarat then.” “We engaged in detailed discussions on various governance-related matters, and his wisdom and humility were always evident. In this moment of sorrow, my thoughts are with Dr. Singh’s family, friends, and countless admirers. Om Shanti,” he added.
As a tribute to Dr. Manmohan Singh, widely regarded as the architect of India’s economic reforms, the nation will observe a seven-day state mourning.
During this period, the national flag will be flown at half-mast across the country. In a directive issued on Thursday to all state and union territory chief secretaries, the Ministry of Home Affairs announced that a state funeral will be accorded to Dr. Singh, and no official entertainment will take place during the mourning period.
