    Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the 18th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) Convention in Odisha on Thursday and virtually launch the first journey of the Pravasi Bharatiya Express.On Wednesday, PM Modi arrived in Bhubaneswar, where Odisha Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, and Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan welcomed him at the airport.

    The PBD convention, organized by the Centre in collaboration with the Odisha government, is taking place in Bhubaneswar from January 8 to 10, with participation from delegates representing over 50 countries. The event’s theme is “Diaspora’s Contribution to a Developed Bharat.”

    After the inauguration, PM Modi will virtually launch the Pravasi Bharatiya Express. This special tourist train is designed for the Indian diaspora. It will depart from Nizamuddin Railway Station in Delhi. Over three weeks, the train will travel to various cultural and religious destinations across India.This initiative is part of the Pravasi Teertha Darshan Yojana.

    The Prime Minister will also inaugurate four exhibitions at the event venue. He will tour the Exhibitions and Promotional Stalls organized by Union and State Ministries and Departments. The exhibitions include Vishwaroop Ram: The Universal Legacy of Ramayana by ICCR and Diaspora’s Contribution to Technology by MEA, curated by Dr. Masooma Rizvi. Another exhibition, Bharat Bharatiya: Swadesh Pardes, features an archival display of the Oman Collection by the National Archives of India. The Odisha state government will also showcase an exhibition on the state’s heritage and culture.

    PM Modi will visit promotional stalls set up by Union Ministries. These include MSME, DST, MNRE, Culture, AYUSH, MeitY, Tourism, National Health Mission, IRCTC, and FIPI.

    The event will also feature stalls from state governments, including Odisha, Maharashtra, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, and Gujarat.

    Ashwini Vaishnaw, the Minister of Electronics & Information Technology, Information & Broadcasting, and Railways, will chair the evening session titled “Green Connections: Diaspora’s Contributions to Sustainable Development.”

    The convention will conclude on Friday with the valedictory session. President Droupadi Murmu will deliver the closing remarks and present the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Awards.

    The Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) Convention was established in 2003 under the leadership of then-Prime Minister Late Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee. It serves as a platform to honor and engage with the global Indian community.

    The Pravasi Bharatiya Divas is the flagship event of the Ministry of External Affairs. It is held in different cities, to showcase the diversity and progress of different regions of India. Since 2015, it has evolved into a biennale event, with theme-based conferences held in the intervening years.This format enables focused discussions on specific topics. It also provides networking opportunities for the global Indian diaspora.

    The Pravasi Bharatiya Divas is the Ministry of External Affairs’ flagship event.The event highlights the diversity and development of different regions in India by being hosted in various cities. Since 2015, organizers have held it biennially. In the years between the biennial events, they organize theme-based conferences. This structure enables more in-depth discussions on specific topics and fosters networking opportunities for the global Indian diaspora.
