Union Home Minister Amit Shah accused Rahul Gandhi and Congress of trying to push Jammu and Kashmir “back into terrorism” during a rally in Kishtwar on Monday. Shah made the remarks on the final day of campaigning for the first phase of the assembly elections.

During his speech, Shah claimed that Rahul Gandhi and Congress, along with their ally the National Conference (NC), have been lenient on terrorism and, if elected, plan to release jailed terrorists and stone-pelters. He emphasized that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, no one would dare to spread terrorism in India.

NC Vice President and former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, however, has dismissed Shah’s claims as baseless. He criticized Shah for making unfounded accusations and asserted that the allegations are a diversion from real issues affecting the region. Abdullah accused Shah of attempting to manipulate public opinion with misleading rhetoric.

In his rally, Shah said, “Once again, efforts are being made to gather support for terrorism here. The NC and Congress have even promised to release terrorists if they win. But as long as Narendra Modi’s government remains in power, terrorism will not take root on Indian soil.”
