As soon as the news of CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury’s passing spread, seven politburo members who were present gathered on the second floor of the party’s central office on Bhai Vir Singh Marg, New Delhi. With tear-filled eyes, they paid tribute to their veteran leader, who passed away at AIIMS Delhi on Thursday after battling a prolonged illness. The politburo released a statement saying, “Sitaram Yechury was the foremost leader of the CPI(M), an exceptional figure in the Left movement, and a prominent Marxist thinker.”

Sitaram Yechury : A Somber Farewell at CPI(M) Office
The unexpected death of Sitaram Yechury at this critical moment in national politics is a significant setback for the CPI(M) and a profound loss for the Left, democratic, and secular forces. Several senior party leaders, including Prakash Karat and Brinda Karat, attended the ceremony to honor Yechury. The event was modest but sincere. A photo of Yechury with the party flag was placed on a table draped with a simple white cloth near the reception area. Party members took turns paying floral tributes while chanting “Comrade Sitaram Yechury ko lal salaam” and “Comrade Sitaram Yechury amar rahe.”

Yechury’s Body to Be Moved for Public Viewing and Medical Research
On Friday, the body will be moved from AIIMS to Sitaram Yechury’s residence in Vasant Kunj, where it will remain overnight. The following morning, it will be brought to the CPI(M) central office for public viewing. At 5 p.m. on Saturday, the body will be returned to AIIMS for research and study by medical students, in accordance with the late leader’s wishes. Baby expressed that this is an irreparable loss for the CPI(M) and the Left forces, and Yechury’s absence will be deeply felt in the days to come.
