The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Friday kickstarted its state-level election campaign in Punjab in the run-up to the forthcoming municipal bodies’ elections with the slogan ‘Saareyan nu ajmaya, saareyan ni ditta dhoka, hun jhadoo waleyan nu devangey mauka’.

A senior leader of the party and Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Punjab Assembly, Harpal Singh Cheema, launched the campaign with a ‘broom’ at a state-level function organized in Bathinda. MLAs Jagtar Singh Jagga Hissowal, Principal Budh Ram, Rupinder Kaur Ruby, Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer, and Baldev Singh Jaito, along with all the AAP candidates contesting from Bathinda Municipal Corporation and the leaders of Bathinda were present on the occasion.

Interacting with the media on the occasion, Harpal Singh Cheema said that all the AAP volunteers had started the election campaign across the state with a ‘broom’. He said that the filth in the houses and streets was being cleaned with a broom and in the same way, the filth of corruption in the municipal corporations and municipal councils by the Akali-Congress would also be cleaned with the ‘broom’. Cheema said that the volunteers would take a pledge to clean up the filth of corruption. He said that the slogan of the party was – “Saareyan nu ajmaya, saareyan ni ditta dhoka, hun jhadoo waleyan nu devangey mauka”.

Cheema further said that the local government had been a hotbed of corruption for the last several decades.

“Sanitation in the cities is deteriorating day by day, nowhere in the city is there a system of CCTV cameras to curb crime. The SAD-BJP and Congress had worked to fill their houses. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is now giving a chance to the people so that those who work for the people could be identified,” he added.

He said that for the last four years Captain Amarinder Singh-led government had done nothing for the people, had reneged on all the promises made before the elections and now the ruling Congress party had recently created an atmosphere of terrorism all over Punjab to win the elections by force.

Cheema said that the nomination papers of many candidates were rejected, especially the papers of the Aam Aadmi Party candidates.
