The People’s Liberation Army (PLA) of China has taken another step in the withdrawal process along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) at the Pangong Tso lake in Ladakh.

The Chinese PLA  has dismantled a makeshift jetty it had constructed at ‘Finger 5’ at the north bank of the Pangong Tso lake in Ladakh. The PLA is also destroying a helipad along with all defensive fortifications and artillery positions it has built in the area last year.

This move by the PLA is part of the disengagement process being undertaken jointly with the Indian Army at the LAC in Ladakh.

The disengagement process had been started by the Indian Army and the PLA on February 10. According to the agreement between India and China, the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) troops will withdraw to the east of Finger 8 at Sirijap while Indian Army soldiers will return to the Dhan Singh Thapa post between Finger 2 and Finger 3.

The PLA is also removing the 80-meter-long sign post written in Mandarin between Finger 4 and Finger 5, which claimed the area as Chinese territory and was designed to be visible from the air.
