    Sanju Samson is still working to secure a regular place in India’s white-ball teams but remains optimistic about his Test debut. The wicketkeeper-batter, who recently scored his maiden T20I century against Bangladesh, has expressed his desire to play red-ball cricket for India. Samson has already spoken with key figures in the team’s leadership, including head coach Gautam Gambhir and captain Rohit Sharma, about his Test ambitions. Both reportedly believe Samson has the potential to succeed in Test cricket. Encouragingly, both Rohit and Gambhir reportedly view Samson as someone with the potential to succeed in Test cricket.

    Samson Test Ambitions Backed by Leadership

    In a detailed interview with Sportstar, Sanju Samson expressed confidence in his ability to excel in red-ball cricket. However, he has yet to receive a chance from the BCCI selection committee in this format. Samson, who mainly plays white-ball cricket for India, does not want to be limited to just limited-overs formats. His ultimate goal is to represent India in Test cricket.

    Before the Duleep Trophy, Samson spoke with the team’s leadership, including the head coach and captain. They informed him that he was being considered for red-ball cricket. They advised him to take it seriously and encouraged him to play more Ranji Trophy matches to strengthen his case. Samson took this advice to heart and has been working to improve his game in red-ball cricket. He is eager for the chance to wear the whites for India.

    Sanju Samson had a strong performance for India in the recent T20I series against Bangladesh. He notably scored a century in the final match. Samson attributed his success to the leadership of skipper Suryakumar Yadav. He also expressed gratitude for the support of coach Gautam Gambhir. Both provided him the freedom to express himself on the field.

    Samson praised Suryakumar, describing him as an excellent communicator who clearly conveys what he expects from his players. He emphasized that Surya’s leadership has earned the trust of the team, making him a reliable captain. Samson also spoke highly of Gautam Gambhir, acknowledging the continuous support he has received from him. According to Samson, having a coach like Gambhir, who genuinely believes in his abilities, makes playing cricket more enjoyable and boosts a player’s confidence.

    Samson explained that typically, when playing for India, a player’s role isn’t always clear. However, this time he was informed three weeks ahead of the Bangladesh series that he would be playing as an opener, which allowed him to mentally prepare for the new responsibility.
