Despite the penalty, DC secured a thrilling victory over CSK by a margin of 20 runs. Notable moments from the match included Pant’s impressive innings of 51 runs off 32 balls, signaling his return to form, and a late impactful cameo by MS Dhoni, scoring an unbeaten 37 runs off just 16 deliveries as CSK chased a target of 192 runs.

    Rishabh Pant Fined for Slow Over Rate in IPL 2024 Match

    The league released a statement announcing the penalty imposed on Rishabh Pant. He was fined Rs 12 lakhs due to his team’s slow over rate during their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 encounter against Chennai Super Kings at the Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam on March 31. The statement clarified that since this was the first instance of such an offence by Pant’s team during the season, the fine was in accordance with the IPL’s Code of Conduct concerning minimum over rate violations.

    DC’s Strong Batting Display Sets Up Impressive Total against CSK

    In the IPL match, Delhi Capitals won the toss and elected to bat first. David Warner and Prithvi Shaw initiated the innings strongly with a partnership of 93 runs, with Warner scoring 52 runs in 35 balls and Shaw contributing 43 runs in 27 balls upon his return. However, after their dismissals, DC faced a slight setback until Rishabh Pant’s brisk innings of 51 runs off 32 balls, including four boundaries and three sixes, helped steer the team to a total of 191/5 in their allotted 20 overs. Matheesha Pathirana emerged as the standout bowler for Chennai Super Kings, claiming figures of 3/31.

    DC Bowlers Shine as CSK Falls Short in Chase

    In the pursuit of 192 runs, Khaleel Ahmed and Mukesh Kumar posed significant challenges for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) batsmen with their accurate bowling. At one stage, CSK found themselves at 75/3 in 10.2 overs. Despite commendable contributions from Ajinkya Rahane, Daryl Mitchell, and an explosive cameo from MS Dhoni, who remained unbeaten with 37 runs off 16 balls, including four boundaries and three sixes, CSK fell short as Delhi Capitals (DC) clinched a 20-run victory, limiting the five-time champions to 171/6.

    Khaleel Ahmed was awarded the ‘Player of the Match’ for his impactful bowling performance.

    In the current standings, CSK holds the second position with two wins and a loss, accumulating four points. On the other hand, DC occupies the seventh spot with one win and two losses, totaling two points.
