Dinesh Karthik, a stalwart for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), concluded his Indian Premier League (IPL) career with a defeat against the Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the Eliminator match on Wednesday. Karthik had previously suggested that this IPL season would be his last. After the match in Ahmedabad, he received a guard of honour from his teammates. Although Karthik himself did not make an official statement, the league’s broadcaster confirmed his retirement via a social media post. Karthik, who debuted in the T20 league 16 years ago, is celebrated as one of the finest finishers in the format.

Dinesh Karthik took off his gloves and acknowledged the fans as RCB players went around the stadium thanking the spectators for their support. In a memorable moment for RCB fans, Virat Kohli embraced Karthik, who appeared to be struggling to hold back his emotions. As Karthik walked back towards the dressing room, he received a guard of honour from his RCB teammates.
Dinesh Karthik Concludes His IPL Journey
Dinesh Karthik ends his illustrious IPL career with 4,842 runs in 257 matches, including 22 half-centuries. Over 17 years, Karthik played for six franchises in the league. He began his IPL journey in 2008 with the Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals), then switched to Punjab in 2011. He later represented the Mumbai Indians, Gujarat Lions, Kolkata Knight Riders, and Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
In the current season, Karthik amassed 326 runs in 15 matches, achieving an average of 36.22 and a striking strike rate of 187.36.
