The massive prize pools of tournaments like Dota 2’s The International grabbed headlines, but over time, it’s become clear that such high stakes made the scene unsustainable for many teams beyond the top-tier players who claimed most of the winnings. On the flip side, when top players in some of the world’s biggest games compete for only a few thousand dollars, it often feels like the industry fails to value the years of hard work they put in to reach the top.
Esports World Cup Aims for Sustainable Growth with $70 Million Prize Pool and 20+ Tournaments
It’s difficult to stay on the right side of the line for many esports tournament organisers, and that only becomes a bigger issue when you have more than 20 different tournaments happening within two months and an overall championship encompassing all of them. That is where the Esports World Cup finds itself, returning for a second year with the mandate to sustainably grow esports, but offer enough of a reward that the top teams will do everything they can to earn a spot in the tournament.

Club Championship to Award $7 Million in One of Biggest Ever Payouts
The 2025 Esports World Cup will allocate over $38 million to individual game prize pools, more than $5 million to qualifying events, and $450,000 to MVP awards. Organizers have reserved the remaining $27 million for the Club Championship a cross-game competition where organizations can earn significant rewards by performing well across multiple titles. The Club Championship winners will take home $7 million, marking one of the largest individual payouts in esports history.
