Ex-India Star Urges Harshit Rana’s Debut Amid Bumrah Injury

The Indian cricket team faces a setback ahead of the 2025 Champions Trophy, with uncertainty surrounding star pacer Jasprit Bumrah participation. The right-arm fast bowler sustained a back injury during India’s recent Test series against Australia. While he has been recovering, the BCCI included him in the Champions Trophy squad but stated that his availability for the third ODI against England depends on his fitness. Notably, India’s three-match ODI series against England serves as a preparatory run for the ICC tournament.

Bumrah Fitness Concerns Loom Over India’s Champions Trophy Campaign

India has added spinner Varun Chakaravarthy to the ODI squad against England following his impressive T20I performance against the same team. However, Jasprit Bumrah name was absent from the updated squad for the third ODI, further fueling concerns about his availability for the Champions Trophy.

With uncertainty surrounding Bumrah participation, former India batter Aakash Chopra has advised the team management to hand a debut to right-arm pacer Harshit Rana.

“Bumrah’s name is missing from the updated squad, even for the final ODI. Siraj is also not in the team. They should find a way to give Rana a debut against England. Not sure how, though, with Arshdeep having limited ODI experience and Shami making a comeback. Maybe play three seamers?” Chopra shared on X.

When asked about Jasprit Bumrah’s fitness ahead of the first ODI against England, Rohit Sharma provided an update on Wednesday. He stated that the team is still waiting for the results of some scans conducted on the pacer.

Rohit mentioned that once the reports are available, the team management will have a clearer understanding of Bumrah’s condition. His availability for the third ODI against England will depend on the findings of these medical tests.

“We are awaiting some scan reports, and once we get them, we will have more clarity on Bumrah and whether he will be available for the third ODI against England,” Rohit said.
