The Indian Premier League (IPL) is the only tournament where fans can still watch MS Dhoni play. The Chennai Super Kings legend enters the 2025 season after an intense training regimen. Since IPL is the only professional cricket event Dhoni participates in, staying fit at 43 is a challenging task. However, when former India cricketer Harbhajan Singh met Dhoni at a recent wedding, he was amazed by the CSK icon’s remarkable fitness.
Harbhajan Singh admitted that Dhoni’s exceptional fitness intrigued him, leading him to ask the veteran wicketkeeper-batter about his IPL preparations.
Harbhajan Impressed by Dhoni’s Fitness, Questions IPL Prep
“I recently met him at a friend’s daughter’s wedding, and he looked incredibly fit and solid. I asked him, ‘Isn’t it tough to maintain this at your age?’ He replied, ‘Yes, it’s challenging, but this is what I love doing. It brings me joy, and I want to continue playing.’ As long as the hunger remains, you can keep going. Without playing all year, it’s tough, but he’s proving how it’s done. He’s not just surviving—he’s dominating the bowlers,” Harbhajan told ESPNcricinfo.
Harbhajan also revealed details about Dhoni’s rigorous IPL training, stating that ‘Thala’ has been batting in the nets for 2-3 hours daily in Chennai since joining the camp.

“The more you practice for one or two months, the better your timing, rhythm, and power-hitting get. Dhoni bats for 2-3 hours every day in Chennai. He’s the first to arrive at the ground and the last to leave, even at this age. That’s what sets him apart,” he added.
Former cricketer Aakash Chopra also discussed Dhoni’s tactical approach in the T20 league. While many have suggested he should bat higher in the order, Dhoni often comes in at No. 7 or No. 8. Chopra explained the reasoning behind this strategy.
“He is very self-aware, which makes a big difference. People say he should bat earlier, but he knows his limits. If 12 overs remain, he realizes he can’t last 40 balls. Fans may believe he can, but he understands his own game. That clarity is key,” Chopra said.
Chopra also praised Dhoni’s lightning-fast reflexes behind the stumps.
“I haven’t seen anyone with quicker hands than MS Dhoni. If the ball reaches him, you’re out 9.5 times out of 10. His hands don’t move back—they’re just incredibly fast.”
