India’s choice to skip the 2025 Champions Trophy in Pakistan has heightened existing tensions between the two nations. The teams haven’t played a bilateral series in over a decade due to political strains. While Pakistan visited India for the 2023 ODI World Cup, the Indian government opted not to reciprocate. India previously suggested a ‘hybrid’ model, with their team playing all matches in Dubai, but Pakistan ultimately rejected the proposal.
India-Pakistan Tensions Rise as 2025 Champions Trophy Boycott Looms
Geo News reports that India’s decision could have major consequences, with Pakistan possibly boycotting games against India in international tournaments. India has expressed interest in hosting the 2036 Olympics, but Pakistan plans to lobby against this bid.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) plans to seek clarification from the ICC about the Champions Trophy hosting situation. Although PCB has been informed that India will not travel for the tournament, there have been no updates on the proposed hybrid model.

The ICC informed the PCB that the BCCI officially notified them of India’s decision not to send its team to Pakistan. “A hybrid model for the Champions Trophy is not currently under discussion,” a trusted PCB source said.
A hybrid model was used in the Asia Cup last year, with India’s matches held in Sri Lanka and others in Pakistan. There is speculation that Dubai might host India’s games in the upcoming tournament, scheduled for February next year.
The PCB plans to email the ICC, with legal input, to clarify India’s decision to skip the Champions Trophy in Pakistan. The PCB is assessing the situation and consulting with the government. The hybrid model from the Asia Cup has not been confirmed. However, there is speculation that Dubai could host India’s matches if needed.
