    Prime Minister Narendra Modi watched a bullet chess match between R Praggnanandhaa and Arjun Erigaisi, both members of India’s 45th Chess Olympiad-winning team, during a visit by the Indian chess teams to his residence on Wednesday. In the recently concluded Olympiad, the men’s and women’s teams made history by winning gold medals for the first time. They joined a select group of nations that have secured double gold in the same edition.

    To celebrate this remarkable achievement, PM Modi met with the Indian chess teams at his residence.The Prime Minister posted a video on his official social media showing Praggnanandhaa and Arjun playing bullet chess, with the caption: “Bullet Chess by two Grandmasters. Incredible! The future of Indian chess is very bright.”

    In the men’s competition, the USA took second place, while Uzbekistan earned the bronze medal. In the women’s category, Kazakhstan secured the silver, with the USA winning bronze.

    In the final round of the 45th Chess Olympiad, the Indian men’s team, consisting of D Gukesh, R Praggnanandhaa, Arjun Erigaisi, Vidit Gujrathi, and Pentala Harikrishna, delivered outstanding performances. They defeated Slovenia 3.5-0.5 to secure the gold medal. Gukesh and Arjun won their matches, giving India a solid 2-0 lead. Praggnanandhaa later contributed with another victory, while Vidit managed to draw his game. This commanding win marked India’s first-ever gold in the men’s category at the Olympiad.

    Simultaneously, the Indian women’s team, consisting of Harika Dronavalli, R Vaishali, Divya Deshmukh, Vantika Agarwal, and Tania Sachdev, earned their gold medal after a resounding 3.5-0.5 win against Azerbaijan. Harika, Divya, and Vantika delivered strong performances, winning their respective matches in the final round. Vaishali secured a draw against Ulviyya Fataliyeva, completing the team’s dominant display. This triumph marked the first time the Indian women’s team won gold at the Chess Olympiad. They made history by achieving double gold in both the men’s and women’s categories during the same edition of the tournament.

    India’s unprecedented double-gold victory elevated the nation to the ranks of a select few countries that have achieved such a remarkable feat in the Chess Olympiad’s history. The team’s performance was widely celebrated and recognized as a milestone for Indian chess on the global stage.
