Star Indian batter Rinku Singh was recently retained by Kolkata Knight Riders for ₹13 crore. Rinku Singh shot to international fame in IPL 2023 with five consecutive sixes against Yash Dayal, securing his spot as KKR’s top retention pick. Reports suggest he recently bought a luxury bungalow in The Golden Estate, Ozone City, Aligarh. Allegedly, the bungalow spans 500 square yards and is valued at ₹3.5 crore.

KKR released IPL-winning captain Shreyas Iyer after he led them to their third title and their first in a decade. Some believe his batting stats—351 runs in 14 innings, with two half-centuries and a strike rate of 146.86—may have influenced the decision. Others feel KKR’s strong top-order limited opportunities for the middle-order. Additionally, his recurring fitness issues, which led him to miss the 2023 season, may have influenced the choice.

Regardless of the reasons, Iyer joins a group of unlucky IPL captains. This group includes Adam Gilchrist. He was released by Deccan Chargers in 2011 after winning the 2009 title and reaching the 2010 semifinals. It also includes David Warner, who was released by Sunrisers Hyderabad before the 2022 season. Despite winning the 2016 title, he had made consistent playoff appearances.
This season, franchises have made bold moves, releasing experienced Indian and overseas players to back uncapped or inexperienced Indian talents.
Among the 46 players retained across all teams, 36 are Indian. This includes 10 uncapped Indian stars, such as Abhishek Porel, Rahul Tewatia, Shahrukh Khan, Ramandeep Singh, Harshit Rana, Mohsin Khan, Ayush Badoni, Shashank Singh, Prabhsimran Singh, and Yash Dayal.
Out of the 24 capped Indian players retained, 13 have played fewer than 30 international matches. Eight of them have featured in 10 or fewer games for India.None of these capped players have experience in all formats. Only Dhruv Jurel and Rajat Patidar have played Test matches.
Dhruv Jurel, despite his limited international experience, has received the largest pay increase, going from ₹20 lakh this season to ₹14 crore for the next.
