India’s dynamic wicket-keeper batter, Rishabh Pant, once again displayed his passion for Test cricket. Scoring a century against Bangladesh in Chennai, Pant returned to his best form in the longer format. However, it wasn’t just his batting that grabbed attention—he was also seen setting the field for Bangladesh at one point, a move once made by MS Dhoni as well. After the match, Pant was asked about the moment, and he offered an impressive explanation.

“Firstly, I often speak with Ajay bhai off the field, and he always emphasizes that ‘the quality of cricket should constantly improve,’ no matter who or where you’re playing,” Rishabh explained after the match. “I noticed there was no fielder at mid-wicket and saw two fielders positioned in the same area, so I suggested they move one to the mid-wicket position.”

In the match, Rishabh Pant reached his sixth Test century, marking his first since returning to competitive cricket after recovering from severe injuries sustained in a near-fatal car accident in December 2022.

With centuries from Pant and Shubman Gill, India set a massive target of 515 for Bangladesh to chase. Although the visitors started strong, they couldn’t maintain the momentum and were bowled out for 234 in their second innings at Chepauk, leading to India’s 280-run victory.

Pant Celebrates Special Century in Chennai, Reflects on Emotional Return to Test Cricket

Pant expressed his joy after the match, saying, “The 100 was special because I love playing in Chennai. After my injury, I wanted to perform in all three formats, and this was my first Test back. I hope to keep improving every day.”

Reflecting on his return, he added, “It was an emotional moment. I wanted to score in every match, but that didn’t always happen. However, doing well in Tests, the format where I truly feel I belong, was important to me. Being on the field brings me more happiness than anything else.” He also admitted, “I’m always nervous before matches, even after hitting a hundred. This time, playing after two years, the nerves were even more intense.”
