Shreyas Iyer shone as both captain and batsman, leading Punjab Kings to their second straight win in IPL 2025, surpassing MS Dhoni captaincy record. PBKS comfortably defeated LSG by eight wickets in Lucknow on April 1. Arshdeep Singh and his bowling unit restricted LSG to 171 on a seaming pitch before Prabhsimran Singh, Nehal Wadhera, and Iyer’s strong batting sealed the chase in just 16.2 overs.
Punjab Kings climbed to second place on the points table with four points, while Shreyas Iyer set a major IPL captaincy record. This marked his eighth consecutive win as an IPL captain—six from last season with KKR and two this year—matching Shane Warne’s feat and surpassing MS Dhoni’s record.
Dhoni appears thrice on the list with six straight wins twice and a best of seven in 2013, though CSK didn’t clinch the title in those seasons (2013, 2014, 2019). Gautam Gambhir leads with 10 consecutive wins in 2014-15, securing a title during that run.

Most consecutive wins in IPL as a captain
Gautam Gambhir holds the record for the most consecutive IPL wins as captain, leading Kolkata Knight Riders to 10 straight victories in 2014-15. Shane Warne and Shreyas Iyer follow with eight consecutive wins, with Warne achieving the feat in 2008 for Rajasthan Royals and Iyer matching it across the 2024-25 seasons with Kolkata Knight Riders and Punjab Kings. MS Dhoni secured seven straight wins for Chennai Super Kings in 2013. Several captains have registered six consecutive wins, including Gambhir (2012), Dhoni (2014 and 2019), Kane Williamson (Sunrisers Hyderabad, 2018), and Faf du Plessis (Royal Challengers Bengaluru, 2024).

Iyer’s Unbeaten Streak and a Washed-Out Encounter
There was a washed-out clash in between for Iyer when rain abandoned the Kolkata Knight Riders vs Rajasthan Royals clash in Guwahati last year. However, Iyer hasn’t lost a game as captain since April 26, 2024 when his current team, PBKS chased down 262 against his former team the Knight Riders.
The Kings have already won two and look like a solid line-up, which can destroy any team on its day when on song and Iyer will be keen to chase the all-time record.
