Shreyas Iyer Wears Sunglasses, Sparks Debate After Duck Dismissal

    cricket

Shreyas Iyer sparked a discussion among former Indian cricketers after being dismissed for a duck while wearing sunglasses during a Duleep Trophy match. Iyer, leading India D against India A in Anantapur, drew attention not for his performance with the bat, but for his unconventional choice of gear. It’s unusual for batsmen to wear sunglasses, as they are typically worn by players while fielding rather than while batting.

As Shreyas Iyer took guard, his sunglasses drew immediate commentary. Former cricketer and Cricket Advisory Committee member Ashok Malhotra asked, “Is it that bright to wear sunglasses?” Laxman Sivaramakrishnan, with a hint of sarcasm, replied, “I think it is quite bright.” The conversation continued even after Iyer’s short stay at the crease, lasting only seven balls, ended when he was caught at mid-on off Khaleel Ahmed, unable to control an uppish on-drive.

Former India opener WV Raman added that wearing sunglasses while playing is a personal choice: “Some players prefer to field with sunglasses on, some don’t. It’s an individual choice.”

    Shreyas Iyer’s Dry Spell

Aside from his sunglasses, Iyer’s form in the Duleep Trophy hasn’t been promising. Despite a quick knock in the second innings of his previous match, he managed just 9 runs in the first innings and fell cheaply again in the next match.

Even though Iyer led Kolkata Knight Riders to an IPL title, his batting has been inconsistent, with only 351 runs in 14 outings. He also struggled in the ODIs against Sri Lanka, and was left out of India’s Test squad against Bangladesh due to his recent poor performances.
