The Indian women’s hockey team has left for Germany to continue their practice for upcoming tournaments. After their tour of Argentina, where they played a total of seven matches, the Rani-led squad will embark on a 10-day tour of Germany to play four matches against their national squad as part of their preparations for the Tokyo Olympic Games.
The team consisting of 18 players and seven support staff will leave on Tuesday from Bengaluru, where they are currently housed at the Sports Authority of India Centre for national coaching camp.
“We feel privileged to travel in a short span to play yet another top team in the world,” the Indian team’s chief coach Sjoerd Marijne told Hockey India.
“Germany will be one of the favorites at the Tokyo Olympics and to test our level against them will really help in our preparations.”
The Hockey India wishes them good luck for their journey, “Led by Rani(C) and Savita (VC), the #IndianEves are set to embark on another International Tour in 2021! Wish them luck for their Tour of Germany”.
The first match against the world No.3 German team is scheduled for February 27 followed by the second match on 28th February. After a day’s break, the team will play again on March 2, followed by the last match on March 4.
“This will be another opportunity for our team to try out various players in different formations,” Savita, also the Indian goalkeeper, said.
