Wasim Akram Faces Tough Questions Over Public Criticism of Pakistan Team After T20 WC

    Wasim Akram

Former Pakistan cricketer Danish Kaneria criticized Wasim Akram and other ex-Pakistan players for their negative comments about the current team, urging them to assist the team directly rather than criticizing from the sidelines.

Pakistan exited the 2024 T20 World Cup in the group stage following defeats to India and the USA. Kaneria’s response followed Wasim Akram’s public social media rant, in which Akram called for the formation of a new team for Pakistan.

    Wasim Akram Criticized

“Wasim Akram and others can only criticize from the outside. Why don’t they come and help the Pakistan team?” questioned Kaneria. “Why didn’t Wasim Akram raise concerns about Mohammad Amir’s selection earlier?” Kaneria remarked to Sports Now. He also added, “Shoaib Malik is a better player than the current squad members.”

Former leg-spinner Kaneria criticized Pakistan’s inadequate preparations for the 2024 T20 World Cup, particularly questioning the selections of Mohammad Amir and Azam Khan. “They should’ve chosen 20-22 players for the camp and then selected the best 15,” he stated. “Where were Amir and Azam six months ago?” Kaneria also condemned the team’s management for its indecisiveness.

Kaneria accused Pakistan’s management of inconsistency and ego, saying, “They change their stance from morning to evening and can’t admit mistakes.” He also criticized reinstating Babar Azam as captain, suggesting Babar should bat at No. 3 in T20Is, with Fakhar Zaman opening alongside Mohammad Rizwan. Babar scored 122 runs in four matches at the 2024 T20 World Cup but had a strike rate of only 101.
