India Legend’s Fiery Critique on Ruturaj Gaikwad’s Omission from Australia Tests

Ruturaj Gaikwad, one of India’s promising young batters, has yet to secure steady opportunities in all three national formats. Despite his consistent domestic performance in both white- and red-ball cricket, he has not won the selectors’ confidence. Recently, he was left out of the Bangladesh T20I series, with some suggesting the focus was on his red-ball skills. Yet, when the BCCI announced the squad for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Gaikwad was again omitted.

Indian cricket legend Krisnamachari Srikkanth recently voiced strong frustration over Ruturaj Gaikwad’s repeated exclusion from the national team, targeting the Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee for overlooking Gaikwad despite his impressive domestic track record.

Srikkanth expressed confusion at the inconsistent approach, particularly since Gaikwad’s performance in domestic cricket—across both white-ball and red-ball formats—has shown consistent quality.In his passionate critique, Srikkanth pointed out the lack of clarity in selection choices, mentioning other players like Mayank Yadav, who was briefly sidelined after a few overs due to injury, similar to the treatment received by Shivam Dube and Riyan Parag.

However, when it comes to Gaikwad, Srikkanth believes the decision lacks logic. He noted, “The poor guy! What else should he do? If he scores a century, shouldn’t he be brought back into the T20I squad? He’s made two first-class centuries and still hasn’t had a chance. He has the scores to prove himself. Where is he supposed to go now?” Srikkanth posed this question on his YouTube channel, emphasizing that Gaikwad’s domestic achievements seem to be overlooked without clear reasoning.

Despite the ongoing critiques, the Men’s National Selection Committee has appointed Ruturaj Gaikwad as captain of the 15-member India A team for the upcoming tour of Australia. This leadership role indicates some recognition of his talent. However, it raises questions about whether strong performances with India A will help him break into the senior squad. Fans and selectors will closely watch his performance in this role, as it could significantly influence his future prospects with the national team.
