Meta announced on Thursday that it had fired 20 employees for leaking internal information to the media. The decision comes as the company faces scrutiny over CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s apparent political shift towards US President Donald Trump. A Meta spokesperson confirmed the move, stating that employees are reminded regularly that sharing confidential information is against company policies.

The company acknowledged that an investigation led to these terminations and hinted that more layoffs could follow. Meta emphasized its commitment to taking action against leaks, stressing the importance of protecting internal discussions.

Meta Fires 20 Employees for Leaks Amid Political Controversy

The firings follow a series of reports based on Zuckerberg’s conversations with employees. In one meeting, he expressed frustration over constant leaks, saying that efforts to maintain transparency were being undermined. He warned employees to prepare for significant changes in the coming year.

Zuckerberg also stated that Meta would work productively with the White House. His stance aligns with a broader trend of tech leaders shifting their positions following Trump’s election victory in November.

In recent months, Zuckerberg has made multiple efforts to strengthen ties with Trump. This includes private meetings, donations to Trump’s inauguration fund, and adjustments in Meta’s content moderation policies. The company also discontinued its US fact-checking program, a move seen as appealing to the new Republican leadership.

Further reflecting this shift, Meta replaced its longtime political affairs head with a Republican figure and appointed Trump ally Dana White to its board. These decisions align with the perspectives of the president and his supporters.

Zuckerberg has also embraced a more outspoken stance on cultural issues. In a conversation with Joe Rogan, he criticized corporate culture as being “culturally neutered” and expressed support for embracing masculinity, echoing sentiments shared by figures like Elon Musk.
