The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) will begin its antitrust trial against Meta on Monday, following nearly six years of investigation and legal proceedings that could significantly impact the tech giant’s future. Both FTC and Meta’s legal teams will present their opening statements before U.S. District Judge James Boasberg.

The trial is expected to last around seven to eight weeks and will feature extensive evidence and witness testimonies, including those from Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, former COO Sheryl Sandberg, and Instagram chief Adam Mosseri.

The case will feature extensive evidence and testimony from multiple witnesses. The government plans to call Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, former COO Sheryl Sandberg, and Instagram head Adam Mosseri to the stand, NPR reported. The Wall Street Journal reported that Zuckerberg personally lobbied Trump, asking him to urge the FTC to drop the case, a claim that Meta has denied.

Zuckerberg and Trump had a strained relationship, partly because Meta removed Trump from its platforms after the January 2021 Capitol riot.
Last week, Meta spokesperson Christopher Sgro issued a statement, calling the FTC’s lawsuit “defies reality” and emphasizing that the company operates in a highly competitive social media market.
