    Badlapur Accused's Kin Allege Police Encounter

    Shinde was killed near the Mumbra Bypass around 6:15 PM after he allegedly grabbed a policeman’s gun while being transported in a police vehicle during an investigation linked to a case filed by his ex-wife. Police officers were present at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Hospital after Akshay Shinde, accused in the Badlapur school sexual assault case, was fatally shot by the police in self-defense.

    In Thane, the family of Akshay Shinde, an accused in the Badlapur sexual assault case, has labeled his death as an “encounter” and is seeking justice. Shinde was shot dead by police on Monday evening near the Mumbra Bypass around 6:15 PM. According to authorities, the incident occurred when Shinde allegedly grabbed a policeman’s gun while being transported in a police vehicle for an investigation related to a complaint filed by his ex-wife. In response to Shinde injuring an API by gunfire, another officer from the escort team shot him. He was later pronounced dead at Kalwa Civil Hospital.

    Speaking to reporters outside the hospital, Akshay Shinde’s mother and uncle accused the police. And the Badlapur school management of conspiring against him. They claimed Shinde had informed his family that he was being beaten in custody. And had even sent a note asking for money.

    Family Questions Police Account, Denies Accused Could Have Snatched Weapon

    His mother and uncle questioned the police’s account of events, insisting that Shinde would not have been able to snatch a policeman’s weapon. They also denied that he was depressed. “The police have killed our child. The school management should be investigated as well. The police made him write something, but we don’t know what it is,” they further alleged.

    “My son was afraid of bursting crackers and crossing the road. How can he shoot at policemen,” she asked.
