The summer season has only barely begun in the coastal state. But the daily heat index already displays a worrying pattern.
Kerala, which hit hard by heavy rain a few months ago. It is currently suffering from intense heat as temperatures soar to record highs. The summer season has only barely begun in the coastal state. But the daily heat index already displays a worrying pattern.
According to a study published on Thursday by the Kerala State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA). Some sections of the southern state had a heat index of more than 54 degrees Celsius. It poses a major risk to public health and increases the likelihood of heat stroke.
The heat index is a measure of the heat level that person will experience when air temperature, humidity are combine. In order to alert the public about potential health risks. Many industrialised nations employ the heat index to measure what it “feels like” outside.
It claims that the ‘feel like temperature’ is greater than 54 degrees Celsius. In several places in the Alappuzha, Kottayam, and Kannur districts as well as the southernmost point of the Thiruvananthapuram district.
India Meteorological Department :
The Ministry of Earth Sciences of the Indian government oversees the India Meteorological Department (IMD). It is the main organisation in charge of seismology, meteorological measurements, and weather forecasting. IMD has its main office in Delhi and has a large number of observation stations throughout India and Antarctica. Chennai, Mumbai, Kolkata, Nagpur, Guwahati, and New Delhi all have regional offices.
On Thursday, significant portions of Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Kozhikode, and Kannur also saw heat index readings between 45 and 54 degrees Celsius. Heat stroke might result from prolonged exposure and activities in certain locations.
The entire region of Kasaragod, Kozhikode, Malappuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Ernakulam often has a heat index between 40 and 45 degrees Celsius. Which can make people tired if they spend too much time in the sun.
Just a small portion of Idukki and Wayanad’s hill districts have a heat index below 29 degrees Celsius.
Contrary to the usual pattern throughout the summer, Palakkad is now facing less wrath from the season, with a heat index of 30 to 40 degrees Celsius in the district. The majority of Idukki district is also inside this range.
The Indian Meteorological Department’s autonomous weather mapping capabilities are use by the KSDMA to create this heat index map. While the temperature in the state is rising rapidly (IMD).
IMD Thiruvananthapuram declined to respond to questions about this story.
In order to protect themselves from the oppressive heat, the health officials have advised individuals. To exercise additional caution while stepping outside and to drink plenty of water.
