Monitoring stations across Delhi, including Ridge and Ayanagar, also reported maximum temperatures exceeding 40 degrees Celsius, with readings touching 41°C. At Palam and Lodhi Road, the IMD observed temperatures hovering around 39 degrees Celsius.

Three stations – Safdarjung, Ridge, and Ayanagar recorded temperatures that fulfilled the heatwave criteria today, marking the season’s first day of heatwave conditions. These conditions are likely to prevail until April 9. However, from April 10, temperatures are expected to drop across Northwest India, including Delhi, said the IMD in a statement, as reported by PTI.
When the IMD issues a Yellow Alert for heatwaves, it signals that heat conditions will be moderate and generally tolerable. However, vulnerable groups such as infants, the elderly, and those with chronic illnesses may face moderate health risks. Authorities advise people to minimize heat exposure, wear lightweight, light-coloured, loose-fitting cotton clothes, and protect their heads with a cloth or umbrella when stepping out in the sun.
